Continental Celebrates Ten Years in Australia Amidst Plans for a Profitable Future

At the time of Continental Airlines’ tenth anniversary of regular passenger flights into Australia, the airline has undergone a big profit transformation and is being discussed as a possible sale item by its parent the Texas Air Group.

The airline, which currently operates 22 services a week into Australia, commenced regular passenger flights in May 1979 with four DC-10 services weekly. It replaced American Airlines which was providing competition for Pan American, then the only other US carrier licenced for the South Pacific by the US government.
