On the Airbands

John Guselli, my good friend at Bankstown Tower, advises that the reason for the frequency change from 118. 1 to 126. 8 has been prompted by heavy and constant industrial interference on the tower frequency. The source of the interference is proving extremely difficult for CAA radio engineering staff to isolate and identify.

Until the irritating source of spurious frequency radiation is pinned down, Bankstown Tower can be heard on 126. 8, 123. 6 and 119. 9 MHz.

Airbands readers such as Mr H Gerrold of Woolgoolga in New South Wales are keen to obtain complete sets of aeronautical charts which will enable them to decode position reports where latitude and longitude of aircraft are expressed as a waypoint code only. For one reason or another, when I am having trouble obtaining chart material, Skygear International in downtown Sydney is able to provide the flight documents I am seeking. Skygear International are at 115 Clarence Street, Sydney 2000, on the fourth floor of that building. Phone them on (02) 29 5071. If you’re outside NSW you may be able to locate a similar outlet local to you. Otherwise you can drop Skygear a line, telling them what it is you require. I’m sure they’ll be able to assist you make your monitoring just that much more enjoyable!
