• The Minister for Defence, Mr Jim Killen, announced in late November that the General Dynamics F-16 and McDonnell Douglas F-18A Hornet have been short-listed for the RAAF’s TFF requirement. Aircraft previously considered, but now excluded, are the Northrop F-18L and Dassault-Breguet Mirage 2000. The F-18L no longer in contention because of the lack of a firm production programme and the Mirage 2000 has been deleted for both cost and suitability reasons.
is • The Chinese Ministry of Machine Building and McDonnell Douglas have reached a preliminary agreement which would see China obtain some DC-9 Super 80s and the possible establishment of a DC-9 assembly line in Shanghai • Embraer has adopted the name Brasilia for the twin-engined EMB-120 30 seat commuter aircraft which is being developed to complement the Bandeirante. Powered by the newly announced 1500shp Pratt & Whitney PT7A-1, the Brasilia should be certified by late 1983 with deliveries commencing during 1964.
