Looking like a cross between a Manta ray and a flying set square, the Northrop B-2 stealth bomber formates on a USAF KC-10 in a test of the bomber's air refueling characteristics. The B-2 has survived its initial baptism of fire in Congress with funds being approved for the test flying of two production aircraft in 1990 and a further five in 1991. Further in-depth analysis will however dictate whether or not the eventual 132 $US70bn programme proceeds on schedule.

More French F-18 Trials:
The ongoing saga of the French Navy and its need to find an interim carrier based fighter to fill the gap between its overdue for replacement Vought Crusaders and still years away Rafale Ds has taken a new turn with the announcement that carrier trials of the F-18 Hornet will now take place.
Two F-188 will undergo a series of trial landings aboard the carrier ‘Foch’ to assess the aircraft’s compatibility with the ship and to test “interoperability (their word, not ours!) between the US and allied naval air arms. The whole issue has been raging for some time, but the basic fact is that the Crusaders are long obsolete and increasingly difficult to maintain while the Rafale won’t be available for six to eight years yet.
