Students sit through what at times seems to be an endless series of briefings. The study so far has proved that the alert and deeply interested trainee aviator will not only find it easier to eventually achieve his licensing goals but will also get there in a shorter time. Like most things there simply is no alternative for sheer enthusiasm, accumulated natural interest, knowledge of the subject and hard work

Learning to Be a Pilot:
Methods used by trainees
A study at the University of Newcastle showed that trainee pilots fall into two groups according to how they study and that grouping makes a difference to their ground school results as well as their hours to solo.
Flight instructors pride themselves on their ability to recognise ‘the right stuff’ in the students with whom they fly. With a surprising degree of accuracy, experienced instructors are usually able to identify students who will do well, and those who will not make the grade.
This intuition though is difficult to analyse scientifically, being based mainly on the instructor’s experience and personal insight. In terms of the Australian aviation industry, and the individual pilot, what we need is a means of identifying trainee pilots’ commitment to learn and the techniques they can use to study or acquire skills successfully.
