• The first order for the Boeing 747EUD extended upper deck version of the 747 has been placed by Swissair. Featuring a 23ft extension of the forward upper fuselage, the four aircraft will be delivered between March 1983 and December 1984. This new version will be able to carry up to 44 more passengers and the new configuration will be available on the 747-1008, -100B(SR) and -2008 Combi as a retrofit.
• To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Amy Johnson’s 1930 solo flight from England to Australia, DH82 Tiger Moth VH-AWA was flown from Bankstown to the International Terminal at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport on 24 May by Mrs Sonja Robey.
