Will Aeroflot Be Privatised Before Qantas?

The Labor Party’s wafer thin March election victory may have been good news for the party but, beneath the veneer of confidence displayed for the media, lies a major battle between the various factions over that perennial ALP bogey man – privatisation.

The PM set the pace within days of claiming victory by stating that a new and tough policy aimed at speeding up the agenda of micro economic reform, regardless of what the party’s left wing factions felt, was an imperative. That this included the freeing up of Qantas and Australian Airlines, their possible privatisation or in the minimum a massive equity injection, was made loud and clear as both these Government owned enterprises struggle in a sea of debt.
