AirNewZealand currently operates a fleet of 5 747-200s and will add two -400s to its inventory by year end. Under the ambitions of the Year 2000 Vision Statement, the airline will operate up to a dozen 747-400 aircraft by the end of the century along with 20 767 class twinjets.

Amidst celebrations marking its 50th birthday, Air New Zealand is embarking on an aggressive Year 2000 Vision Statement that aims to make it the dominant carrier in the region by the turn of the century.
To achieve this the airline aims to increase inbound tourism from the expected two million arrivals by 2000 to three million. Tourism is already New Zealand’s biggest foreign exchange earner and under its new management team, the recently privatised Air NewZealandisaimingto achievedoubledigit growth through each year of the nineteen nineties.
To achieve this the airline has launched an aggressive attack on every facet of its operation with the aim of achieving efficiencies in its day to day operations whilst achieving massive expansion into markets it had previously been playing second fiddle to. T hese include a major increase into the Orient with capacity increasing from a present day 22% of services to 42% by next year. New destinations such as Bali, Bangkok, Seoul and Taipei will be promoted whilst services to Japan will also increase.
