Difficult Period for Rnzaf

The last few weeks have not been the best of times for the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

First it had to ground half of its Iroquois helicopter fleet after the discovery of tail fin fatigue cracks,only seven of the 13 being classed as airworthy. Then a few days later, fatigue cracks were found in the wing mounts of some of its ageing BAC Strikemasters. This, together with other maintenance problems, left Ohakea with less than half of its 14 training jets fit to fly.
