Js it a 146 or a BAe RJ? British Aerospace used Farnborough '90 to launch their 'new' RJ70 and RJB0 quadjets. Though the aircraft are really series 100 and 200. 146s, they do use modified Textron Lycoming 500 series engines, an EFIS cockpit and some structural mods to reduce empty weight. BAe are primarily positioning itself to better compete with Canadair, Saab, Embraer and Fokker with possibly a jet powered version of the Fokker 50

Farnborough 90 – Saved by the Soviets!
This year’s Farnborough Air Show, the 41st held to date, will go down in history as being the year that no major announcements were made.
Certainly in the last decade or so there has been neither a Farnborough nor Paris that has been so quiet in terms of non orders and non launches. Pity- it was for a time believed, indeed hoped, that Boeing would launch its long awaited 777 big twin at Farnborough 90 but such was not to be the case. McDonnell Douglas were also mooted to be nearing a definitive launch for their 747 competitor, the MD-12. These will no doubt have to await better times as the spectre of soaring fuel costs, an uncertain economic future and the very cause of it all, the Gulf Crisis, overshadowed the show and everything about it.
Indeed, the Gulf crisis actually caused some aircraft not to attend, such as the F-117 Stealth fighter and the AH-64 Apache, whilst possibly bolstering the flagging fortunes of others, such as the Tornado and Eagle as they enter the sunset of their production lives with a renewed hope of new orders.
