Hawker Sea Fury

Commodore Norman Lee continues his series of articles on aircraft he flew during his service with the Fleet Air Arm.

After a couple of years flying Fireflys, including a tour in Korea, I managed to wangle a conversion to the Sea Fury. It was the first of three of Sir Sydney Camm’s designs that I was lucky enough to fly, the other two were the Sea Hawk and the Hunter.

After digesting the Pilots Notes and a thorough briefing on how to handle the Bristol Centaurus 18B engine, an entirely different technique to the Griffon, I was sent on my way.
