The USAF Systems Command has wind tunnel tested a 747 AWACs model, the aircraft itself being proposed for operational use after the year 2000. The full scale radome would stand at its highest pomt 27.5m above the 747 fuselage, would be 40.1m long, 14.5m wide and 3.Bm high, providing 360 degree radar coverage at ranges considerably in excess of current AEW aircraft.

Dasa/Atr Mou to Curb Competition:
Deutsche Aerospace (DASA), Aerospatiale and Aeritalia (the ATR consortium) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to prohibit direct competition between the two parties in future civil aircraft projects.
The agreement will mean that DASA, which is responsible for the 19 seat Dornier 228 and 30 seat 328, will not expand into ATR’s 42 seat and 72 seat markets, and vice versa. The two parties are in agreement that this is the best move so that each can retain their market shares in the small airliner categories in which each specialises.
