There are certainly less pleasant ways of spending a couple of days than flying an Aerospatiale TB. 20 Trinidad to Adelaide and back, and while in South Australia’s capital city sampling the delights of the Mudry CAP. 10B aerobatic trainer. Two French light aeroplanes intended for vastly different roles and both superb in their own way.

The idea to have a look at the CAP. 10 (refer p. 78 March 90 AA for an Update) had been in the air for some time, ever since the Australian Aviation College (AAC) at Parafield had announced it was buying two examples to supplement its main training fleet of ‘TBS’-fixed undercarriage 180hp TB. 10 Tobagos and retractable undercarriage 250hp TB. 20 Trinidads. Established to train airline pilots, the College’s philosophy is that even pilots whose career will be spent basically flying straight and level need to be able to cope with ‘unusual attitudes if things go wrong, say in the case of severe turbulence. Besides, anyone who has even done basic aerobatic training will know that it sharpens up general flying skills quite substantially and helps a pilot fly more accurately.
