Losses – But Ansett NZ to Fly On
Ansett New Zealand, which lost $NZ29. 3 million in the year to June 90, will keep operating, says chief executive Gary Smith. The company has now lost close to $NZ100m in its first three financial years in New Zealand.
Ansett NZ’s income for the year to June 1990 did not cover operating costs. However, Gary Smith says the 1989/90 losses were in excess of the budget, but “we are well on the way to meeting forecast plans. ” The 1989/90 result was $NZ7. 5m or 20% better than 1988/89’s loss, according to accounts filed at the Companies Office, Auckland. Mr Smith said the airline’s latest results were affected by the early decision to re-equip with modern jets.
