• The Japanese MSDF accepted delivery of the first of three Lockheed P-3C Orions at Lockheed California on 12 May. The Orion was flown to Jacksonville NAS, Florida where it will be joined by the other two aircraft later in the year. The P-3Cs will be used for crew training purposes and will be delivered to Japan next January. Kawasaki will build 42 P-3Cs at its Gifu plant and the initial four aircraft will be assembled from knocked down kits.
The Australian aircraft industry has been offered the opportunity to participate in the design and production of the next Airbus project, expected to be the A320. An investment of $400m would allow Australian companies including CAC, GAF, Hawker de Havilland and British Aerospace to participate in all phases of the project.
