Boeing Sikorsky Wins Lh Contract
The Boeing Sikorsky Light Helicopter ‘First Team’ partnership has been selected to develop the US Army’s new Light Helicopter (LH),
The Boeing Sikorsky selection is the culmination of several years of concerted effort to win the US Army’s LH contract, which ultimately will be worth more than $US30bn for the development, prototype testing and production of almost 1,300 light helicopters. In October 1988 the Boeing Sikorsky ‘First Team’ was selected along with a rival McDonnell Douglas/Bell Helicopter Textron team to undertake a demonstration/validation program, during which the two teams formulated their LH designs and demonstrated elements of those designs for the Army. In February this year the teams submitted their final LH proposals, from which the Boeing Sikorsky team was selected to enter the final development and production phase.
