Again this month, only a small number of additions to the register mainly due to the economic downturn in Australia during the last twelve months or so. With a reversal predicted toward the end of this year we can expect things to improve soon, although general aviation is usually first to react to a recession and last to respond to a recovery.

JOH is a 1981 model of the popular Piper Arrow of which there are over 130 flying in Australia. The first Arrow flew on 1 February 1966 and was a development of the basic Cherokee 180 but incorporating retractable landing gear with automatic extension, constant speed propeller and an extra window on each side of the fuselage. A 200hp engined model became available in 1969 and this was produced in parallel with the 180hp model until 1972 when production of the smaller engined model ceased. Over the next five years Piper produced almost two thousand Arrow 200s. A “tee” tail became fashionable during the mid seventies and Piper incorporated this design feature into the Arrow in 1977 to make the. PA-28RT-201 Arrow Ill which also used the semi-tapered wing of theWarrior and larger fuel tanks. A turbocharged version was also available using a Continental TSIO-360-F engine from 1977. JQH is one of 208 PA-28RT-201T Turbo Arrow IVs built at Vero Beach during 1981.
