Don’t Sell the Farm

Last year in our November issue Reece we implored the powers that be to ensure that a sale of any part of Qantas or Australian to foreign interests only be undertaken if it was proven conclusively to (a) be totally necessary to raise the funds required or (b) to be of such strategic importance that our airlines would benefit greatly by the presence of the foreign shareholder.

Consequently, we would like to go on record as stating that the way in which the Federal Government is presently attacking the sale of Qantas and Australian leaves a lot to be desired. They unfortunately appear hell-bent on selling as much as possible to overseas interests without any thought to the alternatives. There is even official talk that individual investors might well be excluded from the share issue almost as if they were lepers.
