Civil Register Update
Register Review
Once again only a small number of changes to the register this month but covering some interesting old and new types.
North Broken Hills’ Cessna 560 Citation NTH is the first of its kind on the register although the aircraft has been flying in Australia for some time using its American registration N26643. Tiger Moth USB was part of an initial order for 350 to be built for the RAAF by De Havilland Aircraft at Mascot. In order to fulfil their contract De Havilland expanded their production facilities at Mascot to include a hangar previously used by ANA and a large portion of the Butler Air Transport hangar. A17-207 was one of 322 aircraft delivered to the RAAF during 1940 for use in the nine Elementary Flying Training Schools at Parafield, Archerfield, Essendon, Mascot, Narromine, Tamworth, Western Junction, Narrandera and Cunderdin. The EFTS’s were gradually disbanded after the war and most of the Tigers were offered for sale on the civil market. A17-207 was one of 130 sold during 1947 and became AHM on 9 September of that year. It led an active life for the next sixteen years before it crashed at Brunswick Junction, WA on 27 April 1963. After nearly thirty years, and a complete rebuild, it is back in the air but was unable to take up its original markings as a Beech Bonanza has been flying as AHM since October 1977. Interestingly the Tiger’s new registration, USB, was allocated to a North American Harvard less than twelve months ago, and which to my knowledge is still flying.
