Many Causes, One Result

The charred strip of land extends for 30 metres yet the aeroplane is remarkably intact.

A wing has broken away from the fuselage and a two ton engine is buried at the base of a mound of bush rock. Fire retardant foam is slowly seeping into the ground. ‘Slow speed impact’, you register almost subconsciously.

It will be some time before the birds and insects again take up their daytime chorus, as an eerie silence still hangs over the crash site. Rescue personnel, their job complete, are slowly going about the business of gathering their equipment, and now have time to contemplate the inevitable question. What happened?
