Budget Attacks Rnzaf
All flying training at the Wigram RNZAF base, Christchurch, is to be moved to another base or even to Australia. This is just one of the shock announcements in results of the 30 July Budget.
Wigram air base is to be reduced to a ground training base only. Many Wigram-based personnel will be posted to other locations. All aircrew training, including ab initio pilots, instructor and navigator training will be moved in the next three years. Wigram will then be closed to all flying operations despite the fact that only a few months ago the runways were resealed, at a cost of $NZ4. 7m. The future of the Wigramhelicopter detachment is not know. For the time being, according to Budget documents, two technical training schools will remain at Wigram.
