Us Bans 146 Sale:
British Aerospace has had the sale of possibly more than 50 of its BAe 146 airliners to Iran blocked by the US Government.
The ban reflects hostage and terrorism inspired US trade sanctions against Iran which forbids the direct supply of aviation equipment of US origin. The 146, of course, has engines by Textron Lycoming, wings by Textron Aerostructures and avionics by Honeywell, all American firms. In fact there is almost as much US dollar content in a 146 as there is British. The order from Iran Air is for six 1468 initially with up to 50 options.
