Sydney Atc Work Starts:

Work has begun on the installation of new air traffic control equipment at Sydney Airport, part of a nationwide program by the CAA which will see the complete upgrading of Australia’s ATC radar network.

Ultimately, the project will result in integrated ATC radar coverage over an 800km. wide strip stretching from Cairns down the eastern and southern seaboards to Adelaide plus an area centred on Perth, Sydney Airport is getting a new radar tower incorporating both primary and secondary radar along with another secondary radar sensor at a remote site, possibly in the Blue Mountains area. Overall, some 20 new. or upgraded radar sensors are being installed around the country to provide a significantly more efficient ATC system. The program will compliment the CAA’s planned two centre Air Traffic Services project.
