Aerodromes Go Local:
The South Australian Local Government Association has agreed to the withdrawal of 18 aerodromes from the Aerodrome Local Ownership Plan (ALOP). The first to transfer to full local ownership was Whyalla Aerodrome, which was handed over to the City of Whyalla during June. Under the ALOP scheme, local authorities owned their aerodromes, but were not financially responsible for their management and operation. The Commonwealth has to date paid more than $1. 5 million to the Local Government Association for distribution to aerodrome owners to fund essential works, as social benefit subsidies, or to be invested by the association for aerodrome maintenance.
