Eis a Virtual Green Light for Third Runway

The supplement to the EIS was finally released on 2 October exactly a year after the draft EIS was produced.

During that period the public was allowed just over three months to comment on the draft. The consultants then took nine solid months of assessment and research to address the 1,897 submissions containing 15,244 individual matters which had to be answered.

Sixty six of these submissions came from action groups while only ten were submitted by airlines. As pointed out in Australian Aviation (p. 17 May 91) the major beneficiaries of the third runway may be falsely assuming that a good idea like the third runway doesn’t need help to fall over the line.
