Commodore Norman Lee continues his series of airtic/es on aircraft he flew during his service with the Fleet Air Arm.

For an aircraft that was a third-generation fighter, it has to be said that the Scimitar was a dismal failure.

I doubt that any company but Vickers Supermarine could have designed an aircraft that grossed out at 34,200\bs, powered by two Avons each producing 10,000\bs of thrust, and which remained firmly subsonic. It wasn’t lightly given the nickname of “The Dragmaster”.
