• Japan took delivery of the first Mitsubishi assembled F-15J Eagle produced from knock-down components on 11 December. This aircraft will join four two-seat F-15DJs which were flown to Japan last month to form the initial equipment of the first ASDF Eagle unit. The first of the Kawasaki assembled P-3C Orions for the Japanese MSDF was rolled out this month and the first flight is scheduled for February.
• Flight testing is expected to begin this month of the PW115 version of the Pratt & Whitney PW100, rated at 2,047eshp, intended to power the EMB-120 Brasilia. The engine is mounted in a representative Brasilia nacelle on the nose of a Viscount test bed. Other variants of the basic PW100 being developed are the 2,160eshp PW120 and PW100/2 for the DHC-8 and ATR42 and the 2. 913eshp PW100/9 which could be used in a stretched version of the ATR42 and new versions of the BAe HS. 748 and Fokker F27.
