January 1-Ambon. A tragic new year for13Squadron RAAF. F/O John Turnbull flying Hudson A 16-29 on a shipping search, crashes into the sea. Only Sgt Bernie Hack survives.
North Africa. In their first Kittyhawk combat, 3Squadron RAAF encounters 16 Ju 87s and six Bf 10 9s about to attack Allied troops east of Agedabia. Stukas are destroyed by F/Os Spence, Barr, Fischer, and Sgt Cameron, who also claims a Bf 10 9 but S/Ldr Chapman is shot down.
