Malibu Crashes Still a Mystery:
The cause of eight inflight breakups by Piper Malibu single-engined pressurised light aircraft has still not been positively identified despite extensive testing in the suspected area, the autopilot. It was thought that electronic interference may have caused the Malibu’s King KFC-150 autopilot to malfunction, but a series of high intensity radiated field tests on an aircraft have not induced a failure in the autopilot, which disconnected when it should have and allowed manual control to be resumed normally.
Sydney Aerobatic School Comes to Canberra:
Noel Kruse has recently established an outpost of his Sydney Aerobatic School at Canberra, initially with one instructor and one aircraft. The school will be operating one of its seven Robin R2160 aircraft but will rotate its Pitts Special and Siai Marchetti 260 through Canberra as required. Noel Kruse has expanded his organisation to provide full flying training, aerobatics up to national champion standard, instrument training, and full commercial licence work. Although the school charges some 20% more per flying hour than most other flying training organisations, Noel maintains that there is a market for the level of training provided.
