Clear up time. I stand corrected on the exact meaning of “FRM” as used by Qantas pilots relating to engineering fault reports. Replace “for routine maintenance” with “fault-reporting manual”. As stated when I last mentioned the FRMs, the system works using a large white manual which includes nearly every fault possible to find on an airline aircraft.

By following a “flow diagram” on the specific fault page, such as “broken First Officer’s notepad light”, an FRM code is extracted and passed to Qantas engineers on the ground. Error is eliminated in describing the exact fault, as engineering have a complementary copy of the FRM book.
