The first Boeing 757 was rolled out at Renton on 13th January and had its first flight on 19th February, one week ahead of the original schedule. During the 21⁄2 hours in which speeds up to 250kts were reached, all basic aircraft systems were evaluated including landing gear retraction and extension, speed brakes, minimum flying speed and operation of wing leading edge slats and trailing edge flaps.

• Lockheed Georgia has delivered the 2,000th transport built by the company at Marietta since 1945, an EC-1300 TACAMO communication aircraft for the USN. Apart from 81 C-5A Galaxies and 285 C-141A Star- lifters, the remaining production is made up of C-130 Hercules versions.
