Shortly after my conversion to helicopters I was posted to No 1 Wessex course at NAS Nowra; the members of this course were destined to form the first front line Wessex squadron on completion.
The Wessex Mk31 was an anti submarine helicof)ter equipped with dunking sonar which had a crew of four; two pilots, an observer who also navigated the aircraft and controlled it during anti submarine operations, and a sonar operator.
