Register Update
Register Review
A good cross section of types make up the New Allocations this month including some that have been flying in Australia for a while but details have only just filtered through the CAA system. These have been included so that those who have bought the AA Civil Aircraft Register either in book or computer disk format can keep their information up to date.
Robin ATL, IPT, is a new type on the register although it has been in the country for about seven years. The ATL, “Avion Tres Legere”, is a French built side by side two seat very light aircraft designed to fill the need for a low cost training aircraft. The prototype, F-WFNA, first flew on 17 June 1983 using a three cylinder Bouchoux engine but production aircraft are fitted with a 65hp JPX-2050 four cylinder engine which is basically a modified 1800ce Volkswagon. The airframe is of wood, aluminium and glass reinforced plastic construction utilising a fixed undercarriage and a V-tail. Built in 1985, IPT was the fourteenth aircraft off the production line and came to Australia later that year using French test markings F-WFOA. It was displayed at the Schofields Air Show of that year where a lot of interest was shown in the machine. It was intended to build a modern purpose built factory at Port Macquarie on the NSW north coast to licence build the aircraft but that did not eventuate and the machine has been in storage at Bankstown until now.
