Chinook “Barter” Deal Looks Like Coming Off

The Australian Defence Force’s plans to exchange 1 1 mothballed medium lift C model Chinook helicopters for four new D models appears to be nearing acceptance in the United States.

However, although at the time of going to press the process looked likely to go ahead, there remained the question of whether the deal required the approval of the US Congress. It is understood that the Assistant Secretary (Acquisition) for the US Army, Mr A Convers, in the second half o fApril had signed the approval documents in the Pentagon, and the cost neutral arrangements also had been agreed by Boeing Helicopters.
