The United States has given approval for the sale of American J79 engined Israeli Kfirs to Taiwan and the Philippines. Taiwan has ordered 34 single seat and six two seat aircraft, while the Philippines have a requirement for 18. The sales of the Kfir follows their phasing out of Israeli front line service, with a resultant number of aircraft now surplus. Recovery This Year Says Dhc:

The world economy will start to improve later this year, according to a market forecast issued by de Havilland Aircraft in Canada. The forecast predicts that the airlines will generally return to profitability in 1993 following recent modest signs of growth (particularly in the regional sector) and that 7,420 new aircraft in the 15-90 seat range will be needed over the next 20 years. It predicts annual growth averaging 3. 7% for regional airlines over the same period Of the 7,420 predicted sales, de Havilland expects 2,083 of them to be 60-90 seaters along with 2,345 40-50 seaters and 1,923 20-39 seaters. All three categories will show growth over the coming two decades but the 15-19 seat category will decline as the regional airlines move to larger equipment, largely due to major airport congestion. The forecast predicts. sales of just 1,0060 aircraft in this category over the next two decades.

The forecast also expects the USA to remain the largest market, accounting for 43% of the deliveries or 3,169 aircraft, followed by Europe (1,462), Asia/Pacific (1,062), Latin America (702), Africa (498), Canada (453) and the Middle East (74).
