If only your average nineteen-seventies American Spam Can had a cockpit as good as this. The Robin features an excellent panel layout coupled with proper sticks, comfortable seats and a six point harness arrangement that really makes you feel that you are a part of the aircraft.
The School of Airmanship
The School of Airmanship
In line with our policy of seeing for ourselves what our advertisers have to offer, AA recently paid a flying visit to the Bankstown-based Sydney Aerobatic School.
As we were to discover, the title of the school is somewhat of a misnomer. Since it was established some eight years ago, the school has expanded its activities to include other aspects of flying training, resulting from a demand generated by the success of its primary venture into aerobatic instruction. The school is now more properly identified by its generic title ofThe High Performance Flight Training Centre, since aerobatic instruction is but one of a range of flying training courses now provided.
The school had its genesis in its founder’s recognition that there was a demand for professional and experienced instruction in the art of aerobatics. Noel Kruse was coming to the end of a21 year career in the RAAF during which he had flown a variety of aircraft, including fighters, bombers, transports, and at that stage, a rather boring desk. He had meanwhile become interested in competitive aerobatics by way of the Australian Aerobatic Club and when he retired from the RAAF, decided to start a specialist aerobatic school. His aim was to provide aerobatic instruction for licenced pilots; however as he was to discover, their general standard of flying was below that which he had expected, or considered acceptable and he found himself giving remedial instruction in basic handling. From there it was a logical step to providing remedial instruction on an ongoing basis and accordingly he set about establishing his school as a fully fledged flying training organisation.
