With so much to do at Easter AA decided this time to be totally different and to visit a major air show in a foreign country.

Well, not really that ‘foreign’ as I am sure our Kiwi cousins across the Tasman feel as equally at home with us as we do with them. Certainly our AA tour party felt at home. So much so that most have vowed to join our 1994 Wanaka tour and I for one will be one of them.

Wanaka 92 went off like the proverbial well oiled machine. Light rain dampened down the potential dust a day before the big event whilst Show day arrived sunny and cloudless with just the hint of a light breeze. To say the flying lived up to the performance of Mother Nature is understating things as the dynamic duo of Ray and Mark Hanna from the UK bought home the difference between our typical Australian display and those to be seen in Europe, and in particular England. Vis- itors to Duxford, et al, will understand precisely what I mean. The sight of the Spitfire, Messerschmitt, Sea Fury and Corsair screaming down the runway at zilch feet (like ten metres!) at near max velocity is a memory that will be difficult to erase by time alone.
