The joint Aerospatiale/Deutsche Aerospace Super Aircraft Transport International Company (SATIC) tasked with producing a Super Guppy replacement has chosen a team of four European companies to work on the aircraft. Latecoere, Sogerma-Socea Rochefort, Huerl Dubois and Socata have been tasked with various aspects of design and engineering for the aircraft, with Latecoere being responsible for the overall integration of the aircraft. Dubbed Super Flipper (following on from Super Guppy) the aircraft is due to makes its first flight in the second half of 1994. (Airbus)

Taaats Tender in Doubt:
It is understood that following evidence given in camera by CAA project manager, Dr Rob Edwards, the Parliamentary Public Works Committee has decided not to approve Thompson-CSF as the CAA selected tenderer (refer p41 May 92 AA). Instead it is to recommend that the tendering process be investigated.
For those who have been following the campaign to discredit the CAA selection, this is not an entirely unexpected move. However it will have far reaching implications, not the least being the effect of delays on the planned introduction into service of the new system. Inevitably costs will blow out and there will be serious manning implications for the CAA. Should, in the long run Hughes be given the contract, it is hard to imagine how a successful working relationship could be established between the latter and the CAA after what has been a long and acrimonious public. debate.
