Industry Commission Recommends Total Deregulation for Intrastate Air Services

The Commonwealth Government’s Industry Commission has come out strongly in favour of total deregulation for intrastate air services.

The key finding of its report, released at the end of August, was that the economic regulation which still existed in some states was “the major factor” holding back the development of the industry. It argued that the needs of the market would be better served through open competition than through government bodies deciding which companies should be allowed to fly where, how often, and in what aircraft types.
