Development continues on the Saab JAS39 Gripen. Over 550 test flights have been completed, with the aircraft bettering its specification requirements. Flight tests have been carried out to the maximum load factor of 9g, while in-flight Sidewinder launches and cannon firings have also been successful. Development of the two seat JAS39B has commenced, while the first two production single seat aircraft have left final assembly and are due to be delivered in the first half of next year. (Saab)

Nulka’s Future up in the Air?:
It is understood that the US Government hasindicated that funding of its share of the joint Australia/US Nulka project will not extend beyond the present full scale engineering development (FSED) stage and that the US NAvy is now unlikely to acquire the system in the short term, should it progress into production reports Tom Muir in the Australian Defence Intelligencer.
This does not represent a reversal of arrangements – there was no commitment by the parties beyond completion of the FSED – although both the RAN and the USN were interested in acquiring an effective off-board missile decoy system, hence their sponsorship of the project.
