On the Airbands

Qantas Airways have done it again . . . setting the pace for other airlines to follow, announcing their plan to install in-seat personal passenger video units in First, Business and Economy classes.

Installation of the seat-back videos has already begun in First and Business, with Economy class trials expected in early 1993. Boeing 747-400 and 767-300 models will be fitted up first, with the remainder of the fleet progressively modified throughout next year.

Qantas have evaluated numerous types of in-seat inflight video entertainment systems, dating back to initial trials on a 747-300 back in 1988. Since then, the quality, size and dependability of the technology has improved significantly, and Qantas are now ready to make the major multi million dollar commitment to passenger personal entertainment.
