 Proposed Efa Programme Delays:

The Eurofighter consortium has proposed delaying delivery of production EFA aircraft by two years to lessen pressures on the troubled programme.

The delay proposal is part of a study. currently underway to determine significant cost reduction measures to reduce the aircraft’s programme cost, and would see production EFAs delivered during 2000, rather than 1998 as currently planned. The review is also studying the aircraft’s equip ment and avionics, considering alternatives such as using an existing radar for example as the Hughes APG-65 and a single engine derivative. First flight of the first EFA is due by the end of the year, after a nine month delay.
