Darwin GA Relocation Troubles
Darwin GA in Relocation Battle With Fac
Darwin Airport, which has developed piecemeal over the years has been the subject ofa detailed replanning exercise by the FAG, David Finlayson explains. . . Darwin Airport’s new International terminal facility which became operational in late 1991, was as a result of FAC’s advanced airport management and the exchange of information policy, concerning infrastructure development, financing, marketing, operation and maintenance. Airport capacity continues to be a major factor in the continued economic growth and integration expected within the Northern Territory.
From the inception, general aviation operator reaction to the new northern GA infrastructure location was cool, bordering on icy. Planning and development was seen by the GA operators to be ignoring the established voice of the entire general aviation airport community. Darwin’s new northern airport location with associated infrastructure is estimated to cost $5 million, utilising the two existing runways shared with the RAAF.
