Badgerys Creek Master Plan Slated as Unlikely to Attract Potential Users

The Federal Government had a two-fold plan to preserve the Badgerys Creek site for airport purposes: first, to declare it a federal airport development site; and second, to consolidate this declaration by establishing a general aviation (GA) airport.

But the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works (PWC) conclusion that the GA airport the Federal Airports Corporation (FAC) proposed for the site was “inadequate and unlikely to attract potential users”, has made it necessary for the Federal Government to review its options.

The PWC recommended instead the establishment of a domestic-cum-international airport which in its initial stage, would “include a 2900m long runway with the minimum associated infrastructure necessary” – a proposal made by interested local government groups.
