The Kestrel Aircraft Company, a newly founded GA company based at Ponca City in Oklahoma has announced its intentions to design and produce an all-new family of advanced high-wing four-place prop driven GA types to fill the void left by the withdrawal from production of popularPiper andCessna types. At the time of writing, workon the prototype Kestrel KL-1A (pictured) was imminent, with the first flight due later in the year. Much of the aircraft will be built with composite materials to increase the life of type and permit a rivetless, cleaner surface. The Federal Airports Corporation has recorded a profit for the 1991/91 financial year of $34. 9 million on revenues of $394. 3 million. Operating profit before tax was $88. 96 million, while profit before interest was $151 million

Gary Pemberton has been named chairman of Qantas, succeeding Bill Dix, who will remain as a consultant for the float of the airline later in the year. Qantas has appointed Graham Jones to the position of Group Chief Financial Officer, while Captain Ray Heiniger will take over from Captain Ken Davenport as Qantas’ Director of Flight Operations. Chairman and CEO of American Airlines, Robert Crandall has been elected President of IATA for 1992/93. Ansett Transport Industries has reorganised its board of directors, following the resignation of Sir Peter Abeles, Alan Yates, and Alan Notley. Members of the board are David Mortimer, Graeme McMahon, Fred Millar, Neville Cleary, Ross Cribb and Peter Chegwyn, while Ken Cowley remains chairman. Ansett Australia meanwhile has streamlined its top level management by replacing seven as- sistant general managers and two deputy managers with three general managers. Michael Terrell has been appointed to the position of General Manager Operations, and Hugh Thorburn has become General Finance and Administration Manager, while the third position General Commercial Manager was not yet filled at presstime. Further changes within Ansett include the appointments of Bill Jauncey, State Manager WA, John Carlos, Manager NT, Rodney Robson takes up the new position of Director Overseas Sales and Development; Peter Hillas, State Manager Victoria and Peter Rowe, Manager ACT. Two FAC appointments at Brisbane are Bradley Bowes, Manager Terminal Services and Cameron Spencer, Manager Airport Services. At Lufthansa, succeeding retiring Anton Wellenraelter as Regional Director Passenger Division Australia and New Zealand is Gero von Goetz. Rodger Bouette, a Director of Invotech Operations, has taken up the part time position of CEO of the DSTO’s Industry Support Office. Northwest has announced the promotion of Jim Scott to Vice President-Pacific Division.
