• The newest entrant in the airline business in the south-western United States is America West Airlines. Services are due to commence in August and the airline will lease seven Boeing 737-300s, five from Pacific Western and two from Guiness Peat Aviation, After a gap of almost four years, Pan American has reintroduced its Flight 100 known as the “The President”, offering a daytime flight from New York to London. The three class 243 seat Boeing 747SP leaves JFK New York at 9. 30am and arrives at London at 9. 30pm.
• Swissair has become the launch customer for the Airbus A310-300 long range version. It will have the same dimensions as the A310-200 but will carry additional fuel in the tailplane enabling it to carry 218 passengers over a range in excess of 4000 nautical miles.
