Merlin Powered P40f Kittyhawk Engine Run
August 15 Saw the First Engine Run of the Merlin Engine Powered Curtiss P-40f Kittyhawk, Vh-hwk, Take Place at Tyabb, Victoria – Pictured Above. The Engine Run Marks a Significant Step in the Path Towards Restoring the Aircraft Back to Airworthy Condition.
The Kittyhawk Has Been Under Rebuild Since It Was Recovered 18 Years Ago From the Jungles of Vanuatu’s Errumango Island. The P-40f, 41-14112, Was Part of the 44th Fighter Squadron, 18th Fighter Group, 13th Air Force Usaaf Station at Bauer Field, Efate, in What Was Then Called the New Hebrides. It Made a Forced Landing on December 20 1942 During Which It Was Badly Damaged.
