• The Czech air force said on October 1 that it will retire its remaining MiG-23 Floggers following the decision to purchase a further 12 Aero L-39ZA Albatros jet trainers. The MiG-23 retirement was prompted by a decline in remaining airframe hours.

• The Swedish air force’s first Saab JAS 39 Gripen squadron, F7 wing’s 2 Attackflygdivisionen at Satenas air base, has been declared operational. The aircraft will replace AJS 37 Viggens.
