Airbus denies claims of engineering outsourcing

written by australianaviation.com.au | October 14, 2009

Airbus has denied claims that it plans to outsource up to 20 per cent of its engineering work to India by 2012, but maintains that its long term plan is to seek more global partnerships.

The speculation came after Indian newspaper The Mint reported that Airbus would move one fifth of its engineering and design work to low cost countries by 2012, including a sizable work package for India.

“This report is incorrect. The EADS 2020 Vision envisages up to 20 per cent of Airbus work could be subcontracted globally by 2020 but this is not new,” Airbus spokesman Justin Dubon told Reuters.

Airbus currently employs 130 people in an engineering centre and training facility in Bangalore, with plans to increase this to 400 staff.
