Hawaiian Airlines celebrated its 80th anniversary of continuous service for Hawaii on November 11, presenting passengers across its Hawaiian ports with fresh flower leis.
Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO, noted the significance of the anniversary and thanked employees and customers. “Hawaiian Airlines has been flying since essentially the dawn of commercial aviation and has weathered the turbulence of a stormy business over 80 years. That is a remarkable achievement in itself, considering all the iconic airlines in history that never reached this milestone.”

Hawaiian’s predecessor, Inter-Island Airways made its first flight on November 11 1929 from Honolulu to Hilo via Maui, using a Sikorsky S-38 amphibian aircraft with eight passengers and two crewmembers.
Australian Aviation featured a profile of Hawaiian Airlines, which flies to Sydney, in the June 2009 issue of the magazine.
